The DOOM 3 BFG Edition is a compilation of the first three games DOOM, DOOM II and an enhanced version of DOOM 3 + the Expansions, including one never before seen called the Lost Mission. This is also the first time any DOOM title has been seen on the PS3! The Platinum is a tough one, mainly because of the Nightmare difficulty.

Eight years after Doom 3 was released, the creators from id Software led by John Carmack decided to create a special edition of their hit, remastered specifically to benefit from capabilities of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles. The Vanilla edition served as a basis for the project and the creators made sure that audiovisual improvements are not the only changes introduced into this edition.

Plot

Doom 3: BFG Edition for PC, PS3 and X360 does not bring any significant changes to the plot present in the original release. In the single-player mode, the player takes on the role of a marine, who tries to survive in a research facility on Mars, where the player's task is to close an interdimensional portal opened accidentally by scientists. The bad news is, different monstrous creatures have already made their way through that portal. The only major change in terms of the plot here is the addition of a campaign called The Lost Mission, consisting of seven new levels.

Mechanics

Doom 3: BFG Edition for PC, PS3 and X360 is based on the classic FPS mechanics - the player explores subsequent locations filled with enemies and exterminates them with a wide variety of available weapons. Having console users in mind, the creators decided to modify the controls in order to give more comfort to players with gamepads in their hands. The system of checkpoints was rebuilt as well.

Technical aspects

Doom 3: BFG Edition for PC, PS3 and X360 brings many changes in terms of the audiovisuals. The crew from id Software remodelled the lighting system, thus the player can use a tactical flashlight attached to the protagonist's clothing. Thanks to an improved module responsible for rendering, the creators were able to implement higher-quality textures, which affects the overall visual impression the game makes. Doom 3: BFG Edition supports both the stereoscopic 3D and 5.1 surround sound technologies.

Apart from the base game and the Resurrection of Evil expansion, the package includes both Doom and Doom II, thus the players are given an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the entire franchise.
