How To Download Skse Skyrim

Posted : admin On 11.09.2019

SKSE, the Skyrim Script Extender, is a modders resource that expands the scripting capabilities of the original, 32 bit, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. It allows mod authors to go beyond the limitations of the Skyrim Creation Kit, which in turn, allows us access to more expansive mods. If you run the skseloader for the script extender. You have it enabled BUT you won't have steam ingame. This basically tricks the launcher into thinking it's starting up the normal skyrim executable. But instead it starts up skse which then starts skyrim. That way you have both steam and skse at the same time working.

I'm getting back into modding and discovered that a new mod manager has come out. I wanted to try it (I've used MO for the longest time) as I heard it had some nifty features, and I always had some problems here and there with MO.

However, I'm at a bit of a stumbling block when it comes to downloading SKSE.
I'm going off of Nordic's mod guide (because I want to avoid any headache of an unstable game) and this is the path I followed.

  • Downloaded SKSE 64.

  • The current version is 2.0.12.

  • Opened with 7zip

  • Downloaded it to a modding folder I created for tools. Extracted the files

  • Copy and paste these three files skse64_1_5_62.dll, skse64_loader and skse64_steamloader.dll into Skyrim SE Directory.

The next step is this

  • MO**:** Locate the Data Folder inside the SKSE64 folder, copy it, and then paste it to your desktop. Right click the desktop version, and select add to archive. In the box that pops up, change it's name to something you'll recognise. I called mine SKSE Mod. Add the new archive to MO like you would a manually downloaded mod. Activate it in the left panel.

But I use Vortex, and I'm not sure if this is the proper thing to do. I turned it into a ZIP and downloaded it onto Vortex, but i'm still unsure if that's correct.

How To Install Skse

Compatibility:
SKSE will support the latest version of Skyrim available on Steam, and only this version (currently 1.9.32 with any other numbers following). It is extremely unlikely that any future non-SE Skyrim updates will be released.

Having crashes on startup after a game patch? Remove the files from Data/SKSE/Plugins and try again. Mods using plugins probably need to be updated.
Before contacting us, make sure that your game launches properly without SKSE first. Also, attach skse.log, skse_loader.log, and skse_steam_loader.log (found in My Documents/My Games/Skyrim/SKSE/) to any support requests.
